Is your child a picky eater? If so, then our children development center in Sunnyvale, California, would like to share some tips on how you can help your little one move on from being a picky eater.
- Serve food regularly.
This means serving meals and snacks at regular times of the day. Offer three meals and snacks throughout the day while only serving water in between meals. This will keep your child hydrated while ensuring that they come to the table hungry.
- Don’t offer other options.
Only cook one meal for everyone to eat. If your child doesn’t like the food, don’t force them, they will eat when they are hungry and will compensate on the next mealtime.
- Be a good role model.
Eating together as a family is important. Family members are important role models for healthy eating, and children are more likely going to try certain foods if they see everyone eating them.
- Remove distractions.
Turn off the TV and keep all gadgets away from the dining table. Mealtime should only be for eating and spending time with the family.
- Do not pressure, trick, or punish.
Listen to your child’s preferences. Allow your child to decide if or how much they will eat from the foods offered. An important part of child care is letting them trust you. So, do the same and trust that they will eat if they are hungry.
We hope these tips will help you instill healthy eating habits in your child.
